Alfonso J. Verruso, 90, died Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife of 68 years, Nicolina Verruso; his son, John A.Verruso and his wife, Dolores E. Verruso; his daughter, Camille V. Bood; three grandchildren; Jeanmarie Verruso, Jacqueline Verruso and Garett Bood; a great grandchild, Thatcher Hayes Bood ; two sisters, Sarafina Albano and Connie Bruce ; a brother, Joseph Verruso and many close friends. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, the son of John A. and Carmella Verruso. Alfonso wore many hats in his life. After high school he served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. After his discharge he worked for the railroad and later became a civil servant for the City of New York. He retired to Florida only to take on a job with a construction company. He liked building things. Mostly homes. Alfonso also had a beautiful voice and could really belt out a tune. He loved singing Sinatra. He formed a singing duo with close friend Rosalie Tucker called Magic Sound. Through the years he and Rosalie performed at many events in the Boynton Beach and Palm Beach area.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Saint Thomas More Church followed by a military ceremony at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth at 1pm.
