Obituary

BOYNTON BEACH, FL - Ann Eileen Cleary, age

89, of Boynton Beach, Florida passed away after a

series of illnesses on Thursday January 13, 2022 at

the Bethesda Hospital East in Boynton Beach.

Ann was born on May 28, 1932, in Jersey City,

New Jersey, the daughter of Frank J. Farley and Anna

  1. (Comiskey) Farley. She attended St. Dominic's

Academy in Jersey City and after graduating from

Katherine Gibbs School worked in New York City

at Lever Brothers and NBC.

In the summer of 1955 Ann met a handsome young

man at the Jersey Shore and just six months later

she married him. Ann and John V. Cleary Jr. began 60 years of marriage at St. Aloysius Church in Jersey City on January 28, 1956. It was a strong and loving marriage until he passed away in October 2016. Ann and Jack had five children and made their home in New York before moving to Vermont in 1978, and Boynton Beach when Jack retired in 1993.

Ann loved to travel. As a young woman she had an ambition to take a cruise around the world, and later in life she would say that she was doing it in segments. Her cruise destinations included Europe, Africa, the Far East, Australia, Alaska, and South America. She had a competitive spirit and was an avid golfer while she was physically able, and a frequent card player in her later years. She was a devout Catholic, serving as a Minister of Holy Communion for several years at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Charlotte, Vermont.

Ann is survived by her son Jack Cleary (Shelia) of South Burlington, VT and her daughters Eileen Stroupe (David) of Shelburne, VT, Patricia Rachlin (Paul) of Tarrytown, NY, Karen Dewitt (Scott) of Cocoa, FL and Mary Ellen Newcomer (Christopher) of Pittsford, NY; grandchildren Sarah and Meghan Cleary; Caitlin Cocina (Ryan), Emily Freeman (Alec), and Bryn Jones (Dan iel); Matthew, Kristin, Timothy and Kelly Rachlin; Lauren, Daniel and Griffin Dewitt; Kylie, Connor, Ryan and Quinn Newcomer; and great-grandchildren Sadie Cocina and George Freeman.

Ann was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her brothers Francis W. Farley and William P. Farley.
