Tom Otto, 91, a much loved and respected husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014. He was born Aug. 24, 1922, in Wheeling, W.Va., the son of Arch Thomas Otto Sr. and Lottie (Flanagan) Otto. He graduated from Wheeling High School, Wheeling W.Va, and attended Bethany College.
During his 45-year railway career, Tom worked as a yardmaster for the Pennsylvania Railroad in Weirton W.Va., became General Chairman for Penn Central Yardmasters, and in 1971 was elected National President of the Railroad Yardmasters of America, serving in that role until his retirement in 1983.
In 1985, Tom and his wife Kathleen "Kay" relocated from Mt. Prospect, Ill., to Palm Beach Leisureville in Boynton Beach, where he played golf, served on many committees and was elected President of the Board of Directors.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kay, daughters Alison Otto of Nashville, Tenn., and Heather Otto of Tucson, Ariz., son-in-law Mike Liddicoat and granddaughter Kathleen Liddicoat of Tucson. He is pre-deceased by his son, Alan Thomas Otto of Chicago, parents, and aunt and uncle, Grace and Allison Dick.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, Feb. 28, 2:00 p.m., at Clubhouse 2 in Leisureville with burial in Wheeling, WVa., at a future date.
