On Sunday, May 29th, Art Mueller passed away of natural causes at the age of 83.
He was born in Chicago on April 11th, 1928 to Joseph and Anne Mueller. He was the third of four boys, Joe, Bob, and the youngest, Tom. He married Sally Sheffer, a divorcee with a 5 year old son in 1959. Sally preceded him in death in 2005. Their only daughter Amy passed at 13 months in 1961.
Art's profession was as a Golf Course Superintendent and Golf Pro. His Club was the world famous Tam O'Shanter C.C. in Niles Ill., which hosted the Western Open in 1963 and 1964. In 1967, Art was hired by Playboy International to build the Jack Nicklaus and Pete Dye designed golf courses at the Playboy Club in Lake Geneva,Wis.
In 1969, he took over as Superintendent of Green Acres C.C. in Glencoe, Ill.
In 1971, he was stricken by colitis, semi retired and moved to Lake Worth, FL where he worked for Boca West C.C. and Palm Beach Natl. C.C. as asst. Superintendent for 25 years. He retired in Jan. at 82 years of age.
Art was a Hero to his family. He showed us in hundreds of ways, how to handle adversity, the value of hard work, and how generosity improves our lives. He was a great Step-father, husband and leader for all of us. He will be deeply missed.
To the very end, his greatest concerns were for the welfare of others. He was honest, funny, self motivated and most of all courageous.
He is survived by his oldest Brother Joe, his Step-son Loren and his wife Monika, and his three Grandchildren of whom he was so proud, Amy 20, Nicole 18, and Bodie 4.
No services will be held as per his request. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to "The Smile Train".
