Age 89 of Detroit, Michigan and Boynton Beach, Florida, died August 22, 2015
Mr. Krzywada was born on July 8, 1926 in Detroit to Walter and Mary Krzywda, He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 (WWII) as Yeoman 3rd class Petty Officer.
After the war, Bernard went to Wayne State University and earned a Master's Degree in Physical Education. He worked closely with the city council and the mayor on Water Safety and Swimming instruction.
During the late 50's and early 60's his swim team at Visitation High School in Detroit won six city championships. All while being married to the love of his life Rose Marie and fathering six children. In 1975 the Catholic H.S. swimming league created the Bernie Krzywada H.S. Boys Annual Swimming Award to the top swimmer in Detroit.
In 1976 he was inducted in the Catholic League Hall of Fame. He also volunteered for the Red Cross 62 years. He served as head usher at the 12:30 p.m. mass at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Boynton Beach, FL.
Mr. "Coach" Krzywada is survived by his wife Rose Marie, four sons, Bernie Jr. and his wife Eileen, Michael, John and his wife Tina and Jeff, 14 grandkids and three great grandkids. His daughters, Kathleen Daniels and Karen Sattaur both died of breast cancer.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10am Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at St. Thomas More Church, Boynton Beach followed by burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach. A visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm Tuesday at Boynton Memorial Chapel, 800 W. Boynton Beach Blvd., Boynton Beach.
