Candida Granger (Candi), age 94ish, of Boynton Beach, FL, passed away onJune 25, 2026. Candi was born around 1931 on a small farm near Ponce, Puerto Rico to Delphin and Leopolda Laboy.

Growing up on a farm, Candi would often recall the coffee trees growing near the stream and catching crayfish there. Sometimes they caught her! She moved to New York around 1950 after her older sister, Virginia, came to the mainland US first. Without speaking English, Candi worked at various jobs, eventually learning to be an accomplished seamstress.

During her time in New York City, Candi also immersed herself in her other love – dancing! She would tell stories about doing an exhibition of her Tango skills at Tavern on the Green. Even in her later years, Candi was always moving to the beat.

Candi found her way to the suburbs of Long Island, settling in Massapequa with her family, including her four children. She enjoyed all the neighborhood parties in the 70s and even took up volleyball.

As many people do, Candi moved from New York to Florida in 1980. Upon her arrival, she reinvented herself again, completing school to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Over the next 18 years, Candi helped many families care for their loved ones and made lifetime friends in the process.

After Candi retired in Boynton Beach, she found love (again) later in life and married Frank Granger in 2010. They enjoyed many cruises to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Europe and even the Panama Canal. Candi would often say these were the very best times, being able to enjoy travel, dance and see the world.

Candi was preceded in death by her siblings, Virginia, Filomena, William, Rosaura and Lucy, and by her son Kenneth. She is survived by her sister Jessica and her children Joseph, Jeanette and John; grandchildren Caitlin and John; and great- grandchildren Jaelynn and Priya.
