1943 – 2016
Catherine "Cathy" Adrienne Martens, of Boynton Beach, Fl., was welcomed into heaven peacefully by God and her husband Petrus H. Martens on May 13, 2016, at the age of 73. Cathy was born January 4, 1943 to Catherine and George J. Martin, of Brooklyn, NY.
Cathy received her BA degree in Elementary Education from Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ. Catherine A. Martin married Petrus H. Martens in New Jersey on July 11, 1964. He preceded her in death in 1981. The Brooklyn native (a strong New Yorker) was passionate about Native American culture, watching soccer games (her favorite team was the Dutch National Team and her grand kids teams), social justice themes, green initiatives, going on nature walks, horseback riding, playing golf and participating in Jazzercise. Over the course of her dedicated teaching career, she taught at St. Mark's Catholic School, Glades Day School, Addison Academy and completing her teaching career at Northboro Elementary; a Montessori Magnet school in Palm Beach County, FL.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents Catherine and George J. Martin; her husband Petrus H. Martens and her brother George J. Martin.
Cathy leaves behind a devoted loving daughter, Lucine C. Martens, loving son Petrus J. Martens and daughter-in-law Julie Martens; as well as two spirited young grandchildren: Petrus J. Martens, Jr., Joseph K. Martens and their pet dog Kona. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Stephanie Martin, niece Elizabeth Ridley and her husband Stu, nephews George Martin and David Martin all of New Jersey. Survived also by her brother-in-law; Karel Martens, sister-in-laws; Gerda, Nel, Beb and Mimi with their spouses and children in the Netherlands and Belgium, Europe.
Cathy was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who will be dearly missed.
She leaves many wonderful friends, neighbors, former students and teachers who remember her fondly.
The family suggests donations to your local Hospice Care facility, in lieu of flowers.
A private burial is planned.
