Obituary

Charles "Charlie" John Dlabik, Sr., 75, of Boynton Beach, Florida, passed away on the morning of December 23, 2016, after battling an illness. Born November 9, 1941, in South Amboy, New Jersey, Charlie grew up in Perth Amboy and spent time in Colts Neck and Brick. As a Catholic, he attended Holy Trinity Elementary School and St. Mary's High School in South Amboy. He graduated from Monmouth College in West Long Branch where he played basketball. Following college, he went to work as a teacher, first in Marlboro Township schools and later at the Shull School in Perth Amboy where he worked for 21 years. Following teaching, Charlie finished his career with Monmouth County Department of Recycling, retiring to Boynton Beach, FL, in 2001. After living with his family in Brick, Charlie and his family moved to Howell Twp. in 1979. While in Howell, Charlie was an active parishioner at St. Veronica's Parish where he coached basketball. He also coached several teams and was active in the Howell Central Little League. He was a member of the St. George Catholic Club, Perth Amboy, and the Knights of Columbus in Jackson, NJ. He was also a served on the Howell Township Executive Republican Committee. Charlie was an avid sports fan (Yankees, Knicks and Cowboys) and harness racing enthusiast. He spent a lot of his free time at Freehold Raceway, the Meadowlands and most recently Pompano Park in Florida. He even worked for the New Jersey Sire Stakes over the summer to be closer to his passion. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother. He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Helen Dlabik. Surviving are his wife, Charlotte, of Boynton Beach, FL, three children, Charlotte Sholander of Boynton Beach, Kathleen Hankins and son-in-law Robert Hankins of Lake Worth, FL, and Charles Dlabik Jr. and daughter-in-law, Heather, of Prosper, TX, his sister, Evelyn Lukach and brother-in-law Jim Lukach of Milltown, NJ, and six grandchildren, Dylan Hankins, Darian Hankins, Diana Dlabik, Helena Dlabik, Olivia Dlabik and Liam Dlabik. Visitation is Tuesday, December 27, 2016, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Boynton Beach Memorial Chapel, 800 West Boynton Beach Blvd., Boynton Beach, FL, 33426. Funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 6090 Hypoluxo Road, Lake Worth, FL, 33463. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donation to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
