Clement "Clem" L. Maher

Age 91, of Delray Beach, FL died Wednesday evening, February 29, 2012. He was born July 2, 1920 in O'Fallon, MO to Edgar Maher and Katherine Tochtrop. He was reared in O'Fallon until he attended St. Louis University. His college education was interrupted by WWII and he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps where he became a Four Engine Bomber Pilot serving in the 8th Air Force in England with missions over the occupied continent. After WWII, Mr. Maher went on to graduate from St. Louis University (Commerce and Finance) and Washington University (Law). He was a partner at Price Waterhouse where he headed the tax practice in the St. Louis office from 1958-1981; an Adjunct Professor of Taxation at Washington University; a Consultant to the US Treasury Dept.; and founder, President and CEO of a corporation that became A.G. Edwards Trust Company. Mr. Maher was a CPA in Missouri and several other states, served as President of the Missouri Society of CPAs, and was admitted to practice law in Missouri, Florida and Washington D.C.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia J. (Sweeney); four daughters, Kathleen Passe, Sharon Maher, Jacquelyn Maher and Peggy Doherty; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Orville (Eileen) Maher; and sister, Irene (Lawrence) Dix.
Mr. Maher was predeceased by two sisters, Virginia and Geraldine, who were members of the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood and known as Sr. Catherine Marie and Sr. Mary Edgar; and by an infant brother, Charles.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Monday, March 5, 2012 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Boynton Beach. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery is private. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Louis at a later date. Contributions may be made to Hospice by the Sea, 1531 W.
