Dennis McNamara      May 12, 1939 – July 28, 2019

Dennis McNamara, 80, of Atlantis, Florida a dear friend, husband, father and grandfather passed away at home surrounded by his wife and daughter on Sunday, July 28, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents Howard William and Agnes Marie McNamara; two sons, Joseph, and Christopher McNamara.

He is survived by his loving friend and wife, Gail J. McNamara; his children, Dawn Elizabeth Bahr and husband Wayne of Lake Worth, FL; Michael Patrick McNamara and partner of Gotha, FL; stepson Joseph D. Smith and wife Danielle of Oxford, FL.  Six wonderful grandchildren, Rian Patrick Bahr, Rachel Eleanor Bahr, Noah Dennis Smith, Jenna Gail Smith; Kyler McNamara; Kylo McNamara; his sister Deborah Anne Elliott and husband Thomas of Phoenix, AZ; nephews Nathan Watts and wife Melanie of Phoenix, AZ; Duffy Watts of Mesa, AZ with extended family and friends in Syracuse, NY and around the states.

Dennis grew up in Syracuse, NY where he attended St. John the Baptist Academy then went on to attend Syracuse University.  Dennis served in the United States Marines Corps from 1962 and continuing in the reserves until 1968.

Dennis moved to Boynton Beach, FL in 1968 and retiring with nearly 50 years in the independent insurance agency business. The years took him from Swank-O'leary Inc. to O'Leary Insurance Agency to Dennis McNamara & Associates to Burkey Risk Services and finally at retirement in 2012 BB & T Insurance Services. Over the course of his career, Dennis was the President of the South Palm Beach County Association of Independent Insurance Agents in 1975-76 and 1979-80. He tried a run at local politics, but found out he was much better at golf and tennis.

In addition to playing golf & tennis, in college he played baseball, position of catcher. He attempted professional baseball, but was injured the first season in the minor leagues. Over the years his dedication to his alma mater, Syracuse University, continued. He closely followed them for everything especially basketball and football. For many years, he was a season ticket holder for the Miami Dolphins and was proud to talk about attending two of their Super Bowls.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am, Friday, August 9, 2019, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10935 S Military Trail, Boynton Beach, FL 33436 followed by internment of ashes at the Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, 10941 Southern Boulevard, Royal Palm Beach, Florida 33441.
