On Monday, November 5, 2007, Dorothy M. King, beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend was called home at the age of 72 years.
Dorothy was born in 1935 in Omaha, Nebraska, the thirteenth of fourteen children. She graduated from South Omaha High at the early age of sixteen and moved to Los Angeles, California, to pursue her dreams, which included a little tequila and weekend trips to Mexico (but she would tell us no more). In 1964, she married Carl King and had two children whom she made the centerpiece of her life. As beautiful as Dorothy was on the outside, it paled in comparison to the beauty that shone from within. She had a great sense of humor, wonderful laugh, and a brilliant mind that always kept us thinking. The world was a better place because of Dorothy and we grieve because her early departure leaves us wanting more. More time to ask her opinion, more time to listen, learn, and laugh with her about life, more time to learn the true meaning of unconditional love. We ask those who knew Dorothy, as well as those who may not have known her but have known wonderful people, to join us in celebrating her life. Dorothy, we celebrate you and will continue to do so through our memories, stories, and most importantly, our hearts.
Dorothy is survived by her son Geoffrey King; daughter Melissa Mitchell (Shawn); granddaughters Jessica and Sarah Mitchell; sisters Victoria Kucirek, Katherine Berg (Werner) and Frances Quinn; brother Peter Sorich; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 11:00 am at Boynton Memorial Chapel, 800 W. Boynton Beach Blvd., Boynton Beach, FL 33426. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006.
