Dorothy Orr, nee Smith, passed away on March 17, 2013 at 97 years old. She was predeceased by her husband John, to whom she was married for 73 years.
She is survived by her son, Edward Orr of Sarasota, FL; her daughter, Barbara Smith of Stuart, FL; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she resided in Ridgewood, NJ and retired to Boynton Beach, FL where she lived for 35 years. Before she retired, she was a volunteer swim instructor for the ARC in Ridgewood and for 21 years, was the Health Education Director at the local YWCA. She also started a swimming program for special needs children. While in Boynton Beach, she volunteered at the Galaxy School and was president of Wagon Wheels. She then moved to Palm Beach Leisureville where she was an active member of the Long Island Club, the PA Club and the NJ Club. In addition, She was a member of the Arts and Crafts Club for 15 years.
A Memorial Service will be held 2pm Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Boynton Memorial Chapel, Boynton Beach. Donations may be made to the Treasure Coast Hospice or to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast.
