Obituary

Douglas Spencer Markhouse
(October 17, 1934-September 29, 2022)
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Douglas Markhouse. He departed this world peacefully on September 29th, 2022 at his Florida home, just two months after losing his beloved wife and soulmate, Rosalind, of 62 years.
Douglas is also pre-deceased by his parents Stanley and Wanda Markhouse and his brother-in-law Frederick Rocco, and sister-in-law Helen Rocco.
Born in Clifton, N.J., Douglas was raised in Hawthorne, N.J. and graduated from Hawthorne High School. He continued his education by enrolling and graduating from the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts. It was here that he honed his skills as an illustrator. While attending school he met and started a life-long friendship with his buddy, Douglas Allen, who would become a well-known wildlife and landscape painter.
He is survived by his adoring nieces Eileen Rocco of Hawthorne, N.J., Marilyn Stolte and husband Bill of Long Valley, N.J. and Lorraine Reynolds and husband Jim of Ridgewood, N.J. In addition, he is survived by many friends, cousins and great nieces & nephews. He was affectionately known as Doug and as "Uncle Doug" to family.
Doug lived most of his adult life in the cozy Hudson River hamlet of Hastings-on- Hudson, Westchester, N.Y. Here, he was well known in the neighborhood as a snappy dresser not to mention for his newest and fastest sports cars.
Doug started his early career as a magazine illustrator. But when photography became more prevalent and illustration was waning he switched gears into sales. This move proved to be his life's calling. He quickly rose through the ranks and became a top salesman for McGraw-Hill, responsible for their most prestigious accounts.
In 1990, Doug recognized the opportunity to service the Microwave and Radio Frequency Industry, when he developed and founded Octagon Communications, which published the trade magazine Microwave Product Digest. Later joined by

his wife Rosalind in the business, together they were well known icons in the industry. He and his wife "Roz" were quite the "power couple."
Doug lived the American dream. He came from humble beginnings and worked hard to sharpen his skills and achieve success. Along the journey, Doug hired, mentored and created opportunities for many talented employees whose lives were enriched for having known him.
In 2017 Doug and Roz moved to Delray Beach, Florida full time. He loved traveling the world and had a knack for enjoying the finer things in life. A lifelong student of military history, Doug could have easily become a history professor at any Ivy League school.
A memorial service will be held for Roz and Doug in their beloved Westchester community in the spring of 2023.
He will be missed by many!
