Edwin William Wimmers , 80, Boynton Beach, died early Tuesday morning , December 15, 2020, in Hospice after two weeks in the hospital and moved to hospice only hours before his death. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 30, 1940 and his family moved to Miami in 1948..
He graduated from North Miami high school and then went into the Coast Guard as a Bosun's mate. After returning he attended the University of Miami and later received his Masters degree in curriculum and published his first text book called The Florida Kit which is in all the Florida libraries and sold at a local bookstore. Also upon finishing his basic trading in Coast Guard he became the Assistant director at the Miami Museum of Science where he taught classes on Saturdays and ran the planetarium. He also hosted a local science program on Saturday on the ABC affiliate Miami Channel 10, Later he ran the Dade County High School planetarium. He was also the science person on Channel 10's Arthur and company.
He served on the board of directors of Southern Cross Astronomical Society. He also was on the board of Dade County science fair for many years. He was also on the state science teachers board in which he became president in 1979. The state of Florida also included him in the writing of consumers math for high schools in 1975.
Then in 1981 he was ordained as a minister and aided in services at Good Shepherd Lutheran in North Miami. In 1988 He and his wife began a radio broadcast weekly on WKAT.
In his retirement years he helped his wife in writing Christian books. He also helped pioneer a science and learning center in the tri-county area. He lead a full life and accomplished all his goals.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings and a daughter, He left behind his wife of 58 years of marriage, his son Hal and his wife and 2 grandchildren.
He will be missed, He always brightened a room with his smile and humor.
Edwin did a series of science teachings which he put on his you tube channel and at one time he was asked to be an advisor on a science fiction movie Mission Mars in 1968.
His memorial service will be held at The Calvary Chapel in Boynton Bach. Please join us on YouTube on edwinwimmers Page on Saturday January 30 at 2 PM
