Enrico Mercurio Imprescia, 97, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of strength, love, humor, and devoted service to both his family and his country.
Born on March 25, 1928, in Manhattan, New York, Enrico was the beloved son of Fabian and Rosalie (Caronia) Imprescia. Raised in New York, he carried throughout his life the values of integrity, perseverance, and compassion. Always a snappy dresser, he attributed his good taste in men's wear to working as a young man at Rogers Peet Company in Manhattan while he was still a high school senior. He also possessed a wonderful sense of humor, a quality he maintained throughout his life and one that endeared him to family, friends, and colleagues alike.
Enrico's draft into the Army for the Korean Conflict was deferred until he graduated in 1951 from St. John's University College of Pharmacy. Once inducted into the United States Army, Enrico was very proud of the responsibility of serving as the pharmacist at an Army Evacuation Hospital in Korea during the conflict. He proudly cared for fellow service members during a time of war, reflecting both his professional skill and his deep sense of duty. He remained immensely proud of his military service and the role he played in supporting those who served alongside him.
Following his military service, Enrico devoted his professional life to pharmacy. He retired from Con Edison Medical Services after more than 20 years as a pharmacist, where he was respected for his knowledge, professionalism, and steady commitment to the well-being of others. During those years, he also worked part-time at Drug Mart of Little Neck, further demonstrating his tireless dedication to serving his community. Enrico was a remarkably hard worker and, throughout most of his adult life, simultaneously worked two or even three jobs to support his family and provide for his five children. After retirement, he continued serving the community for an additional five years at Nassau Drug.
It was earlier in his career, while working at Congress Pharmacy, that Enrico met the love of his life, Annlouise Sheroney, a telephone operator with New York Telephone Company. Ann would often visit the pharmacy's lunch counter, and she quickly caught Enrico's eye. Their chance meeting blossomed into a very quick romance, and on April 29, 1956, they were married in New York City. Together they built a life grounded in friendship first, devotion, and enduring love. In 1996, they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a Caribbean cruise, marking four decades of cherished memories together.
In the early 1980s, Ann broke her leg after a fall on Park Avenue in New York. Bedridden for a month, she began researching retirement options in South Florida by telephone and mail, long before the days of the internet. In 1984, Enrico and Ann visited Boynton Beach and met with the developers of Aberdeen. Captivated by the vision of the community, they made the first purchase of a home built in the Hampton Section of Aberdeen. Construction was completed in 1987, and the family traveled to Boynton Beach to turn the key and celebrate Christmas in their future retirement home. Enrico and Ann officially moved to Aberdeen in 1995, beginning a new chapter filled with family, friends, and cherished memories.
Family life was full of warmth and simple joys. At lunchtime, Enrico would prepare his famous peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for their meal. Made with Nature's Own whole wheat bread, he would mix Smucker's Natural Peanut Butter with an egg beater to the perfect consistency and spread it carefully alongside Smucker's blueberry jam. Enrico credited this simple meal as one of the secrets to their long lives. He and Ann would wash it down with water, savoring the simplicity and comfort of these small, shared rituals.
In 2023, Enrico celebrated his 95th birthday with a weeklong series of events attended by his entire family—a joyous reflection of a life full of love and connection.
Enrico was predeceased by his parents, Fabian and Rosalie Imprescia; all of his siblings, Mary (Gerlando) Contrera, Alfred (Ann) Imprescia, Jean (Felix) Dublis, Yolanda (Felix) Balodis, and Eleanor (Robert) Smith; and his precious great-grandson, Mason.
He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Ann; his children: Enrico (Adrienne) Imprescia of Whitestone, NY; Fabian (ex-wife, Ina) Imprescia of Boynton Beach, FL (living with his parents as a loving caretaker); Caron (Joseph) Brown of Barnegat, NJ; Paul (Maresa) Imprescia of Lake Worth, FL; and Peter (Linda) Imprescia of Dover, DE; his grandchildren: Kristina (Ryan) Phillips, Nicole (Anthony) Garofalo, Alyssa (Max) Kolakowski, Tyler Imprescia, Paul Imprescia, and Erica Imprescia; and four great-grandchildren: Parker Phillips, Mason Phillips (pre-deceased), Mia Phillips, and Lucas Garofalo.
A man of deep love, sharp style, gentle wit, and quiet strength, Enrico lived a life guided by devotion, responsibility, humor, and love for his family. He will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, elegant appearance, and unwavering commitment to those he cherished.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Enrico's life during visitation on Sunday, February 22, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Boynton Memorial Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 23, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew's Catholic Church.
As a proud U.S. Army Veteran, Enrico will be laid to rest with military honors at South Florida National Cemetery on Thursday, March 5, at 12:30 p.m., Lane #1.
Memorial donations may be made in honor of his great-grandson Mason to the Leukemia Research Foundation or Children's Hospital of Philadelphia .
Enrico's long life was a testament to service, faith, enduring love, and the deep bonds of family. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered. May he rest in eternal peace.
