Our beloved Florence M. Tanella, 86, left her earthly home for her eternal home in heaven on July 26,2008, surrounded by her family. Born December 8, 1921, Florence lived many years of her life in New York. Upon retirement, she and her husband, Steve, began the next phase of their 64 years of married life in Southern Florida. Florence is survived by her devoted husband, Stephen; her 6 children and their spouses: Virginia O'Brien (Michael), John Tanella (Cari), Patricia Ruggieri (Rocco), Paul Tanella (Linda), Barbara Hernandez (John), and Maria Tanella (Joseph Noto); 13 grandchildren and their spouses; and 6 great grandchildren. Florence is also survived by her sister Virginia Calvey, and many nieces and nephews. Florence lived life to the fullest. She was a devoted wife and mother who treasured time with family and friends. She took great pride in the many accomplishments and successes of her husband and her children. Florence epitomized the ideal of hard work and giving 100% to any project or task she undertook. A hallmark of Florence's life was entertaining, as was evidenced by the many celebrations held on Long Island and then in Florida. Florence was always planning the next family reunion. Florence remained a compassionate woman, always sacrificing for family, friends and strangers alike. She was a volunteer extraordinaire, some of these activities included scouting, schools, soup kitchens, her Church, the Elks and the American Legion. Florence was an accomplished dancer. As a young woman, she traveled with a troupe known as the Rhythm Debs. She and Steve met "on the road". Their mutual love of each other, life and travel continued well into their 80's. They were renowned for their many performances at St. Thomas More. A Memorial Service celebrating Florence's life will be held on Sunday August 3rd at 3PM. Friends are welcomed to gather at 2:30 at Boynton Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice of Palm Beach County,4460 Medical Center Way, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.
