Francis A. Doherty
"To know me is to love me"
Age 93 of Boynton Beach, died February 17, 2015. He was born February 6, 1922 in Milwaukee, WI to John Doherty and Harriet O'Connell. Frank graduated from Marquette University in 1939 and then served 3 years in the Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He married Virginia Mae Johnson on June 28, 1952 in Stoughton, WI and raised three children while working for 30 years for INA Insurance Company, which later became Cigna. Frank and Ginny built a house in Brookfield and after 9 years, Frank was transferred to Detroit where they lived for 21 years. In 1974, they purchased a travel trailer, which they christened "Frank and Ginny's Escape House" that they used to travel the country.
Frank was Jesuit trained and a devout Catholic having been very active in the Christ the King Catholic Church as a lector and choir member. He also served for 3 years on the School Board of Mercy Girls High School where he began the Girls Athletic Association.
After retirement, Frank and Ginny moved to Boynton Beach, FL where they would spend their winters, returning to WI and MI for the summer. In Boynton Beach, FL, Frank was an active member of the Men's Club at St. Thomas More Catholic Church and served as Vice President on the Board of Directors of Royal Manor.
Frank was predeceased by his parents; 4 brothers, John, James, George and Bob; a sister, Harriet; and a granddaughter, Nicole Angelica.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years and 7 months, Virginia; three children, Colleen Kozma, John Doherty and Maureen Thibodeau; 7 grandsons; and 4 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10am Saturday, February 28, 2015 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Boynton Beach. Inurnment will take place in the family plot of St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Wisconsin in June 2015.
