Obituary

Fredric Wechter was a hero and inspiration to everyone he met throughout his 90 years on earth. He is survived by his wife Elvira, the love of his life for 61 years. He leaves behind his daughter Elaine and her husband Richard, and their 3 sons Fredric, Christian, and Nicholas, and his daughter Linda and her husband Dave, and their 2 children Rikki, and Alex, and their daughter-in law Sara. Before his passing he was blessed to have a great-granddaughter Lily, who was born on his birthday. Fredric is survived by his younger sister Helen and husband Sal. He will be missed by his extended family of nieces and nephews and their families. He is proceeded by his parents Max and Sarah, his stepmom Mary, his sister Rose, and his brother Jackie.

Fredric was born in New York City on December 27th 1932 to Max and Sarah Wechter but spent his childhood in Queens. Fredric was an avid baseball player and played for the minor leagues. Fredric joined the Navy in 1952 and served on a mine sweeper. Fredric worked for most of his adult life for the Department of Sanitation, starting out as a sanitation worker and retiring as a borough super in charge of manpower control.  Fredric always loved children so after his retirement he began driving a school bus for disabled children. He ended his bus driving career working at the Unity School thanks to his niece Maria Barber.

Fredric met his wife Elvira on her birthday, November 12th, 1960, at a hotel dance. He was sitting at the table behind her and when he touched her shoulder, she told her friend without looking at him, that he would be her husband. She was very pleased when she turned around and saw a dark haired handsome and athletic man with the kindest eyes.  Fredric became part of Elvira's family immediately and her parents Fredericka and Joseph and her siblings Nicholas, Leonora, and Karl instantaneously loved him.

If you spent more than 2 minutes with Frederic, he called you his friend. He smiled often, laughed hard, and loved deeply. He loved baseball, comedies, exercising, and people. He jogged and weight lifted throughout his life and was a health fanatic. He believed if it was good for you, even if it tasted like carboard, it was worth a taste. Of all things that Fredric loved he loved his family the most. When you asked how he was doing he always said if my family is okay that is all I need to be happy. Fredric will be missed by all who knew him and loved him, and if you knew him you couldn't help but to love him.
