IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George
Zarcadoolas
August 23, 1930 – July 17, 2022
George Zarcadoolas
August 23 1930 – July 17 2002
George was the son of Anthe and Thomas Zarcadoolas, Greeks who emigrated from Greece to NYC in the early 1920s. Anthe was from the island of Nysirros and Thomas from Lamia.
George was one of 7 children. The family first lived on Manhattan's West Side and then Thomas and Anthe bought a large, beautiful home in Astoria where they lived for many years.
George's father opened the famous Greek restaurant "Neo Byzantium" on 41 st Street.
During WW II George served in the Army as a cook and after the war he joined his father and brothers at the restaurant. He was the bar tender – a role he'd go on to play at some of the fanciest restaurants in the City.
He married his dear Connie, and they had a son, George. Sadly, Connie passed away 5 years later. George and son George went to live in Bayside near his brother Angelo and wife Ann's family where all the cousins grew up with each other. We have so many happy memories of those years and all the summers spent helping out with Uncle Pete and Aunt Dot's businesses in Montauk and vacationing in Saratoga.
George moved to Florida in 2009 where he was close to his nephews and nieces. He remained active in cousin Paul's business and was always ready to offer assistance to who needed it. Unfortunately a fall 2 ½ years ago left him unable to walk easily.
Although he spent the last 2 years with great physical challenges he remained the sweet, kind brother in law, uncle, and grand-uncle to all the family – loved here and loved by his family in Greece.
In these last years he was also supported by great friends and his devoted assistant, Mirien.
George's grace and good will defined his life.
May his memory be Eternal
