Gertrude (Trudi) Wakeman of Lantana passed away peacefully after a brief illness on May 4, 2015 in the Care Center at Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach, FL. She was 81 years old at the time of her death. Trudi was born and raised in Framingham, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Fred and Mabel Rogers and sister of Alzada (Rogers) Berini. Trudi married her high school sweetheart, George, in 1953. Trudi and George recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. They lived in Sherborn, MA, where they owned and operated Stongate Farm, a retail produce, flower and chicken/turkey farm, from the time of their marriage until they retired and sold the farm in 1988. During that time they also sent their sons to Princeton and Colgate.
After retirement, they lived for a time in Sherborn and Lantana, FL. They then moved to Pine River, NH and continued to spend much of the year in Lantana, ultimately moving to Lantana full time in 1992. Trudi became actively involved in volunteer work, primarily at JFK Medical Center, where she served in several capacities for many years. She and George also enjoyed travelling, particularly cruising with groups of friends, and ended up visiting most of the entire United States (including Hawaii and Alaska), as well as many countries around the world in Europe (western and eastern), Russia, Australia, New Zealand and various islands. In more recent years, Trudi was an active member in the Red Hat Ladies Society and the Silver Sneakers exercise group. Trudi was also a regular worshipper and member at The Boynton Beach Congregational United Church of Christ in Boynton Beach. Trudi and George have two sons, George Jr. of Sherborn, MA and Jeffrey of
Cornelius, NC. Trudi was blessed with five granddaughters and greatly enjoyed spending time with her sons, daughters-in-law and their families, whether in Florida, North Carolina, Massachusetts or on family vacations and trips and was immensely proud of their accomplishments.
Trudi is survived by her husband George, her sons George Jr., his wife Tina and granddaughters Sarah and Charlotte, and Jeff, his wife Sheila and granddaughters Courtney, Emily and Julia, and her sister Alzada. Her family will remember Trudi as the caring and generous matriarch of the family.
