IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Grace
Giammello
July 2, 1951 – September 28, 2019
Grace Giammello was born in Italy on July 2, 1951, and died in Boynton Beach, Florida on September 28, 2019. When her family (mom, dad and sister) moved to the United States, they settled in New York City and eventually moved to the Bronx (hooray!). When Grace graduated from New York University (which she attended on a full, academic scholarship, graduating with a degree in English Literature), she eventually moved to Yonkers, where she remained until she joined her growing family in Boynton Beach.
Grace was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to the many of us fortunate enough to wind up sharing life with her. While attending NYU, she worked part-time in the United Nations as a translator of French and, after that, in Montefiore Hospital (in the Bronx, New York) for a heart surgeon who was a primary inventor of the cardiac pacemaker. She was fluent in English, Italian, Italian dialect, and French. After graduation, Grace worked full-time In Montefiore Hospital for the heart surgeon as the editor of his international and multi-language pacemaker journal. After his retirement, Grace shifted gears and accepted a position of Associate Registrar in Lehman College of the City University of New York, where she remained until she moved to Boynton Beach to join her family in 2004.
In addition to serving in the administration at Lehman, Grace also taught English as a Second Language for students new to the United States. Her students delighted in her kind presentations, and extraordinary ability to make learning fun and accessible.
More than all that stuff, however, we who knew and loved our Grace best of all, delighted in her spot-on imitation of Popeye's girlfriend, Olive Oyl, her crazy love for pythons, which, when she came upon them ..... not to often, thankfully, she held them close.....really!
Grace had a tremendous love for animals, was mom to cats and dogs through the years, and spoke for them until we all split our sides laughing! Her sense of humor was matched by her kindness and care for less fortunate people for whom she helped when she was able. She was
the best of the best with the biggest heart. She is survived by her sister, nieces and nephews, cousins and adoring friends.
Our world is much changed by her physical absence....we were all totally fortunate to have shared time and space in her company and you would have felt as we do. We will love and miss her always and we are sorry that this obituary is much too premature.
