It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Harriett on July 7, 2016 in
Boynton Beach, Florida.
Harriett, 89, was born in Coweta County outside of Newnan, Georgia. She was
predeceased by her parents, Willard and Hattie Mae Sprayberry of Newnan and brother
Allen Sprayberry of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
Harriett was also predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Leon and her
daughter Gena Weekes Stephenson.
She is survived by children Lee (Sheri) Weekes, John (Annette) Weekes, Greg
(Pam) Weekes all of Boynton Beach; grandchildren John Weekes, Ryan Weekes,
Jennifer Rice, Elizabeth Hinds, Kelsie Weekes, Allison Stephenson, and Marisa Weekes;
and 5 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Ann Sprayberry; niece Mary Beth Stanton;
nephews Mike, Chris and Jeff Sprayberry, all from South Carolina.
Harriett attended the University of Georgia and graduated from Crawford Long
Hospital in Atlanta with a degree in nursing. Upon graduation, she was chosen to
participate in an intensive operating room technique course at the prestigious Peter
Brigham Hospital in Boston. On returning to Atlanta, she was given the position of
teaching OR technique at Crawford Long.
She and Leon were married in Newnan, Georgia in 1950 and moved to Delray
Beach in 1953. Harriett was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Delray, where
she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the St. Catherine Guild
Poinciana Garden Club, and volunteered for many local charities. Also, she was a room
mother for all four of her children.
Harriett's husband and children were the loves of her life. She also loved to travel
and toured through Europe, Hawaii, Canada and the United States. Her favorite hobbies
included fishing, gardening, and cooking, especially baking.
Visitation with family will take place 10-11 a.m. on Friday, July 15 in Parish
Hall of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Delray Beach.
A service will begin in the church sanctuary at 11 a.m. with The Reverend
Kathleen Gannon officiating followed by a Graveside Service at the Boynton Beach
Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to St.
