Obituary

Harry C. Isabel, Jr., age 97, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 15, 2022. Harry, oldest sonof the triumvirate brothers Tom, Dick, and Harry of Harry C. and Laura Reid Isabel. Born on June 27, 1925 in Wheeling, WV and following the usual pattern of Depression relocations, the family settled in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.

Harry attended Fork Union Military Academy, Fork Union, Virginia, graduating in 1943. His decision to immediately enlist in the Army was finally accepted by his parents, and following basic training, Harry was shipped to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, where he was assigned to the 165 th Infantry of the 27 th Division as a Combat Infantry Rifleman. Harry made the combat landing at the Battle of Saipan, 11 June, 1944 and during this daunting battle was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor due to bravery for leaving his position of relative safety to evacuate his stricken comrades to receive prompt medical attention. Harry was also awarded the Combat Infantry Badge.

After discharge, Harry graduated from Penn State, serving as Vice President of Sigma Pi Fraternity.

Harry enjoyed a lifetime of people friendliness, following the exampleof Will Rogers, the humorist, who "never met a man he didn't like" and Fred Rogers of Latrobe, PA whose deep sense of humility invited everyone to the Neighborhood.

Harry was the ultimate salesman, and his years of highly motivated performance provided numerous promotions within the Miller Brewing Company, resulting as Director of Sales for the Eastern United States.

In 1946, following his military service, Harry met the love of his life, Dorothy Hart, who was a senior in high school. They marriedafter Dorothy graduated as an R.N. from the Mercy School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, PA.

"We Are Family" became Harry and Dorothy's mantra and they were soon blessed with the arrivals of Pamela, Claudette and the twins, Carolyn and Marilyn. Education was the top family priority which was satisfied with college graduations by all. Family happiness has been extended by the addition of 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Dorothy and Harry were active members of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Boynton Beach, both as volunteers, Harry as a 20 year Usher and Dorothy a Eucharistic Minister.

Harry was a life member of the American Legion (71 years), BPOE (73 years), VFW (70 years), and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golf and realized he had shown limited improvement during his 65 years of competitive play, however, he understood all wagers were won on the first tee. He served for many years as the President of the Lakeview Men's Golf League. His golf dreams were realized when he achieved a Hole-In-One at age 79 on a 150 yard hole on the challenging Mt. Mitchell, North Carolina Golf Course.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy (Hart), daughters, Pamela Isabel(Larry Hughes) of Woodstock, MD, Claudette (David) Schaus of Hilton Head, SC, Carolyn Dannahey of Springfield, VA and Marilyn (Stephen) Butters of Stafford, VA, brothers, Richard A. of Chapel Hill, NC and Thomas R. of Fort Lauderdale, FL, 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
