Obituary

Helen Duncan Barnett, 90, of Boynton Beach, FL died Thursday, March 19, 2009. She was born February 21, 1919 in Valdosta, GA, the daughter of Howard and Mattie Sue Duncan. She graduated from Valdosta State University and did graduate work at the University of Wisconsin. She taught school in Baconton, GA and in 1943 met the love of her life, Joe Barnett, when he was stationed at the air base in her hometown. They were married for 47 happy years.
Helen was an accomplished pianist and in her early years wrote and directed skits, which were parodies of famous musicals. She volunteered for many years at Children's Hospital in Milwaukee, WI and the Rehabilitation Center. She especially enjoyed visiting nursing homes and putting on sing-alongs for the patients, and used her talent playing for luncheons.
She is survived by four children: Robert (and his wife Sue Kim), Susan (Jim Rech), Leecy, Bill (Paige), and six grandchildren. She was active in her church service throughout her life. Her children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life, as well as her many friends.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 22 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, 101 N. Seacrest Blvd. , Boynton Beach FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance, 102 Pickering Way, Suite 200, Exton, PA 19341.
