J. Gary Kosinski Sr., 76, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12th in the Benefactors Pavilion of Bethesda Hospital in Palm Beach County, Florida.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh to Wilma "Stormy" and Anthony "Toto" Kosinski, Gary graduated from South Hills High School and was an Alpha Sigma Phi at Penn State University, graduating in 1960. As Managing Editor of the University of Pittsburgh Law Review, Gary graduated with a Juris Doctorate, member of the Order of the Coif. Gary became an attorney and Partner at Eckert Seamans and practiced law for over 25 years. Duly admitted to practice before the highest court in the land, Gary successfully defended his clients in front of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1978. Gary was legal counsel for the Township of Mt. Lebanon and also gave free legal advice to anyone who needed it.
Gary married Lynn Geyer at St. Louise de Marillac Church in 1964. Gary and Lynn moved to Mt. Lebanon, and over the next 50 years became strong members of their community. As a father to Geyer, Gary and Kristen, "Big Gary" never left his children's sides. Indian Guide Chief, Little League Coach, Hilton Head Vacation Chaperone and avid Steeler fan, Big Gary shared his passion for everything with not only his children but all of their friends. He was an inspiration and had a positive, lasting impact on them all.
In the words of their young friends, Gary Sr. "elicited imaginative and conceptual discussions" and "shared wisdom and guidance in his unique and entertaining way." As a member of St. Clair Country Club, Gary Sr. was often found distributing legal advice and political opinions around a table in the Men's Grill.
Gary Sr. is survived by his brother James (Joyce); his three children, Geyer, Gary (Penny) and Kristen; and his three grandchildren Stormy Kate, Kyra Marie and Adrien Marley.
In Pittsburgh, visitations will be held at 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Friday, May 15th at Beinhauer's Funeral Home in Peters Township. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday May 16th at St. Louise de Marillac Church, 320 McMurray Rd.
