James “Jim” William Devine, affectionately known to family and friends as Jimmy, Jimbo or Jimmer, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 17, 2026, at the age of 77.

Born on August 8, 1949, in Bloomingdale, New York, Jim was a man defined by dedication, intellect, and an undeniable passion for life. After graduating from Norwich University in 1971 with his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, he went on to the University of Missouri graduating with a Master of Science in Civil Engineering degree in 1972. Jim also joined the Army Reserves where he developed a leadership spirit that he carried with him throughout his life.

Following his education and military service, Jim channeled his talents into a highly successful and world-renowned career as a civil engineer. A true visionary in his field, his work took him across the globe to help shape and build historic landmarks. His remarkable portfolio of work included contributing to the Pentagon Army Operations Center, Raven Rock Mountain Complex, high-speed rail network in England and Holland, the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport, the Olympic complexes in both Australia and Atlanta, and the deeply meaningful World Trade Center Memorial.

When he wasn't working or serving, Jim's greatest joy was sports. He was a fiercely loyal, lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins, the New York Yankees, the New York Rangers, and the Florida Panthers.

Beyond his extraordinary professional achievements and love for his teams, Jim was a devoted family man who brought energy into every room he entered. His enthusiasm was captivating and entertaining. Some of his family’s fondest memories involve family celebrations or gatherings.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Kathy Devine; his loving children, Tiffany Gray and Chris Devine (and his wife Valerie); and his brother, John Devine (and his wife Lynn). He was the proud and loving grandfather of Sebastian Sosa Devine Reese, Emma Gray, Megan (and her husband Jake Balzo), and Aliza Audain. He also leaves behind a large, cherished extended family, including many nephews, cousins, grandnephews, and grandnieces who held a special place in his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Jeanette Devine, and his sister, Barbara Levernois.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Benvenuto in Boynton Beach. In honor of Jim’s lifelong sports passion, the family invites attendees to wear their favorite sports jerseys, team colors, or casual wear to this gathering.
