In the pre-dawn hours on Sunday October 9th my mother, Jane Scott, departed this Earthly plane just 6 weeks shy of her 96th birthday. The last couple of years had been difficult, particularly the last 8 months as the final stage of dementia ravaged her and stripped her of nearly everything. Everything except her soul and her powerful will to live. She had always defined herself by fulfilling the needs of others. In spite of her very humble beginnings, she never failed to put others' needs ahead of her own, even when it might have been time to just sit back and enjoy her successes. And even in her final year, when her ability to do for others was so severely restricted, she just loved everyone that much harder to try to make up for it. And she held on as long as she could even when the only way to communicate was through her determined gaze. She was an amazing woman, and loved by so many, as some of you who knew her can attest, that her absence must necessarily be profound. But it is my fervent hope that she has now rejoined my father, the love of her life, and that they are once again enjoying a cool drink on the club terrace overlooking the most beautiful golf course in the universe.
Rest in peace, Mom, and I'll see you again one of these days. Until then, I'll just miss you like crazy.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1pm November 1, 2016 at Abbey Delray South, Delray Beach.
