Age 92, of Boynton Beach, Florida passed away on May 15, 2013. Jeanette was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 1, 1921 to Leo and Anna Peternek. She graduated from Steimetz H.S. in 1938. Jeanette married Walter Wykis in 1939 and moved to Chicago Heights with Walter. Jeanette worked in the service industry in various positions including working for Marshall Fields in the Park Forest, Illinois restaurant.
Jeanette moved to Mattoon, Illinois in 1976 and received an AA Degree from Lakeland, Mattoon Illinois, Community College in 1978. She enjoyed a second career with the Carpenters Union, Local 347 in Mattoon. After retiring in 1992, she carried with her memories of the great members of the Local and the work they did together.
Jeanette was a model for all who knew her. Living with the debilitating effects of arthritis, she adapted well and looked for the positives in trying times. She loved her children and grandchildren and left a legacy for them with her resiliency and fortitude under difficult health conditions.
Jeanette is survived by sons, Donald Wykis and Mick Wykis and grandchildren Ann Hail, Missy Johnson, Logan Wykis, Ali Wykis, Brianne Wykis, Anya Dale, and Isaac Dale. She leaves four great-grandchildren, family, and friends in Alaska, the Chicago area, central Illinois, South Carolina and Florida. She leaves great friends, Hollie Kingsley and her husband, Ron from Stoughton, Wisconsin and Violet Kodat from Crete, Illinois.
Jeanette is preceded in death by Walter Wykis, her husband.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to one's family and friends through kind words and deeds showing support especially when faced with difficult health situations.
