John F. Hollihan, age 82, went to be with the Lord on November 4th, 2019. His last moments were spent with his wife, and two daughters by his side. John was born in Washington D.C. and was the youngest of three children. Some of his most cherished childhood memories were spending time with his sister, Grace, and playing drums in his high school marching band in Hollywood, FL. After he graduated, he joined the Army and proudly served our country for three years, where he was stationed in Germany.
After completing his service, John decided to pursue law enforcement and was on the force in New York City, as well as Miami. He joined the Boynton Beach Police Department in 1972, and there he met many of his life-long friends. In 1977 he met the love of his life, Mary L. Giese, and they were married on October 14th, 1978. They were blessed by God with their first baby girl, Mary Elizabeth, in 1980, and their second daughter, Kathleen Patricia, in 1983.
After 25 years with the Boynton Beach Police Department, John retired as Captain of the Detective Division in 1997.
He spent his retirement years enjoying time with his family and dogs, watching old movies, reading, reminiscing, and later on, cherishing time with his grandchildren. John loved God, his family, his friends, and his country with his whole heart. His loyalty, honesty, and kindheartedness were a blessing to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
John is survived by his wife, Mary Hollihan, daughters Kathleen (Calvin), Mary Elizabeth, sister Grace Hungerman, and grandchildren Kaylin Jane and Calvin Johnathan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Alice Hollihan, and his sister Patricia Rinn.
"And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand."
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019, at 12:00 noon, at Boynton Memorial Chapel.
Interment to follow at The South Florida National Cemetery (Lane 5), at 1:30 pm.
