O'Reilly
August 15, 1933 – December 7, 2025
John (Jack) R. O'Reilly, (92, August 15, 1933 - December 7, 2025) Lake Worth, FL passed away peacefully at 4:45 pm surrounded by family. He was born and raised in the Tipperary Hill section of Syracuse, NY and was a graduate of St. Lucy's Academy and LeMoyne College.
After a year of training, he served as a shift supervisor in the 15th Radio Squadron Mobile of the U.S. Air Force Security Service at Ashiya AFB, Japan from 1954 until his honorable discharge as a staff sergeant in 1957. Mr. O'Reilly was a special agent with the Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service from 1960 to 1986 and served as a member of the Organized Crime Task Force in Buffalo and as an instructor at the IRS National Training Center in Washington.
Mr. O'Reilly was an Assistant Vice President and a Senior Investigator for Fleet Bank from 1986 until his 2nd retirement in 1998 and a former chairman of the Syracuse Clearing House Committee on Security. He was a former faculty advisor and adjunct professor at Onondaga Community College and an accounting instructor at Central Business Institute, both in Syracuse.
Jack and Audrey, his wife of 65 years moved from East Syracuse to Delray Beach, Florida in 1998. He operated a private investigation agency under the name of Financial Investigative Services in Delray Beach and was a former President of Jardin del Mar Association, where they lived for more than 20 years. Mr. O'Reilly was a special investigator with the Background Investigation Contract Service of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1997 until his 3rd and final retirement in 2013. He was formerly a volunteer in the Court Visitation Program administered by the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit of the State of Florida and the Forgotten Soldiers Outreach, Lake Worth, FL. He was a member of the American Legion and a volunteer at the VA Medical Center in Riviera Beach, FL.
Mr. O'Reilly authored the mystery novel Deception2 and the Cousins and Their Adventure series of short stories.
His parents, John and Catherine Burke O'Reilly, predeceased Jack an only child. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Ann (Richards) who is one of eleven, and their three sons, Thomas M. (Marlene), Lake Worth, FL; David R. (Michele) and John R. (Julianne E.), East Syracuse, NY. Nine grandchildren: Richard D. Boga, Vero Beach, FL, Evelina M.(Kirby) Grines, Lake Worth, FL; Kyle P. (Ashley) and Kaitlyn A O'Reilly, Chittenango, NY; John M. (BreeAnna), Jordan A. , Carly B. and Abby J. O'Reilly and Jessica E. Mikitiuk, all of East Syracuse. Five great grandchildren, Dylan M. Buske, Oswego, NY; Aubriella Mikitiuk, East Syracuse, Caymus and Vaughn Grines, Lake Worth, FL and Addison O'Reilly, Kirkville NY.
Mr. O'Reilly will be cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at the Boynton Memorial Chapel, 800 West Boynton Beach Blvd, Boynton Beach, FL on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 12:00pm; as well as a committal service with military funeral honors ceremony, to include folding and presenting the United States burial flag and the playing Taps. The service will be conducted at the South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 South State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL at 2:00 pm immediately following the memorial service.
