IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Peter
Peruso
April 13, 1938 – February 20, 2023
John Peter Peruso, 84, of Lake Worth, FL entered eternal rest on 2/20/23. He was surrounded
by his loving family when he passed.
Born and raised in the Bronx, NY, John was predeceased by parents John and Jenny Peruso, and
sister Barbara Scheidle.
John was a proud civil servant of the FDNY for thirty-four years. He retired as Lieutenant of
Engine 217 in Brooklyn, after starting his career at Ladder 47 in the Bronx. He was recognized
by the City of New York numerous times for his heroic and brave dedication, resulting in many
lives saved. The love he had for the FDNY brotherhood was admirable. He trained, mentored,
and led many great firefighters at FDNY. He truly loved his career, often watching FDNY fire
videos on youtube late in his life.
John's other passions were baseball and volunteering. He watched every NY Yankee game,
coaching the Bronx Bombers from his chair every day. He also served for eighteen years as
manager of the Setauket little league and travel baseball teams when he lived on Long Island,
NY. Later in retirement, he happily served as an usher at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Lake
Worth.
Beyond all, John lived for his family. Survived by Virginia, his loving wife of sixty-three years,
sons Anthony (Janice), Steven (Dina), Michael, and John-John. Proud PopPop of Christie, Jamie,
Nicole, Jack, Gracie, and Jake. Beloved uncle of Kim Mullen and Christine Pjerov.
The Peruso family expresses our sincere gratitude to the staff at Trustbridge Hospice of Palm
Beach County for their compassionate support during John's brief stay.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to
