John Phillip Sparrell of Boynton Beach, FL passed away unexpectedly at the age of 77. John was born in Weymouth, MA. He graduated from Norwich University earning his Engineering degree in 1958. He served in the Army & Reserves from 1954-1966 as an Army Engineer. John moved his family to Boynton Beach Fl. in 1970, where he owned a landscape business, Reliable Lawn Service, for 30+ years. In his retirement he kept busy substitute teaching, caring for his rental properties and traveling the world. John was an avid sports fan; playing, watching or coaching…He loved the Miami Dolphins, Heat, Marlins as well as the PGA, and all college sports. John was also actively involved in the Boynton Bridge club, and bowling league. He loved to play cards, his favorite card game being "Hand and Foot". John enjoyed travel; seeing the United States by car and by camper, traveled to Europe many times and took several cruises. He just completed a 2 week driving trip out west including Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and Mt. Rainer. His favorite activity was river rafting down the Nantahala River in the mountains of North Carolina. His last trip down the river was during a family reunion at the age of 75.
John is survived by his partner Nancy Kosmin, his children John Sparrell, Michael Sparrell and Susan Doria, three sisters, Liz O'Connor, Joan Wells, Sally L Sparrell, 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held 4:30pm Friday June 7, 2013 at Boynton Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Randall Gill, First Presbyterian Church of Boynton Beach, officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 4pm Friday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
