T. Kermit Dell
"The String Bean King"

Kermit Dell, 87, of Delray Beach, Florida passed away on June 26, 2007 in Boynton Beach, Florida. He was born April 10, 1920, in Dothan, Alabama, the son of William Bartow Dell and Blanche Irene Dell. He graduated from Pahokee High School and received a football scholarship to Rollins College where he graduated in 1945 with a degree in Psychology. After Rollins, he launched a career as a Physical Education and History teacher and football and basketball coach, beginning at Winter Park High School and moving on to several other Florida high schools. Dell was the only living coach of Old School Square in Delray Beach, where he coached football, basketball and baseball.
He bought fifteen acres of land in South Florida and started Dell Farms, where at one time his farm produced 200 tons of string beans in a single day; this earned him the title of "The String Bean King." Dell also grew vegetables in New Jersey and North
Carolina for over sixty years. Mr. Dell was preceded in death by wives Judith Dell and Lucille Dell, daughter Teena Marie Ballas, brothers Alton Dell, James Lawton Dell, Broward Dell and John Yuthe Dell, sisters Huliette Beasley, Patricia Krall and Gladys Harman. He is survived by daughter Bonnie Lynn Dell, brothers Ladd Dell and Bose Dell, sisters Mary Alice Gianolio and Ann Voss, grandsons Christopher Scott Niebel and wife Debbie and Sean L. Niebel and wife Angie, and granddaughter Laura Smith and three great-granddaughters Brooke Niebel, Alexa Smith and Niki Niebel as well as many, many other family member and friends who wish to say " 'Til We Meet Again."
Visitation will be on Friday, June 29, 2007 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Boynton Memorial Chapel, 800 W. Boynton Beach Blvd., Boynton Beach, FL 33426. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at Lakeview Baptist Church in Delray Beach, with interment to follow at Delray Beach Memorial Gardens.
