Lewis E. Halley, Jr. formerly of Easton died on February 17, 2012 in Boynton Beach, FL at 72 years of age. Mr. Halley was a teacher in the Easton Area School District for 33 years, retiring in 1996. He was a graduate of Easton Area High School, Moravian College and earned a Master's Degree at East Stroudsburg University. He was honored as Schoolman of the Year in 1976 and twice nominated to Outstanding Teacher of the Year by his students. Following his retirement, he worked at The Express-Times as a headline editor in the sports department. He was an avid fan of NCAA Basketball and attended the Final Four Tournament many times after his retirement. He worked for Sports Tours International as an escort for foreign teams playing pre-season exhibition schedules in the U.S. He was a lifetime member of the Liberty Hose Company and the Wilson Borough Republican Club. He was a co-founder of the Palmer Veterans Softball League and served as secretary/treasurer for 22 years. He also played/managed the Nor-Car team from its founding until 2001. In 2001, he was honored by Lafayette College for 36 years of distinguished service to the Athletic Department. After moving to Boynton Beach, Mr. Halley was elected to the Board of Directors of the West Palm Beach Senior Softball League and was active as a player/manager in the league. In March, 2008 he was inducted into the Palm Beach County Softball Association Hall of Fame, honored for his meritorious service to the league and his participation as a player and manager. Mr. Halley was the Official Scorer at FAU Basketball games from 2003 until 2010. He was elected President of his homeowner's association and served a two year term.
Mr. Halley is survived by his wife, formerly Jane Kosa of Alpha, NJ, daughters Kristin Geoly of Denver, CO and Pamela Renzette of Delray Beach, FL, as well as four grandchildren, Mia, Niklas, Veronica, and Sophia. Also surviving are his sisters, Betty Ann Limeberry of Easton, PA and Kathleen Mooney of Northampton, PA.
