Obituary

Lillian Mary Pingaro Terrase journeyed to join the rest of the angels on June 8th, 2024.  She went peacefully in her sleep with her usual smile and calmness.  A resident of Vi at Lakeside in Lantana for over 10 years, she previously lived in Boynton Beach—after moving to Florida in 1993 from previous residences in Scarsdale, Yonkers, and the Bronx, New York.

Born on May 2, 1923 in Manhattan, she attended NYC schools—and was the second youngest of six children born to Josephine (Caffare) Pingaro and Louis Pingaro.  She met the love of her life, Salvatore Terrase, at one of the popular apartment rooftop dances she attended with her sister Dee. Early in their marriage, Lillie and Sam moved to Westchester County.  She worked at various secretarial jobs and finally secured her prestigious post as an Administrative Assistant to the County Commissioner of Health, from which she retired after decades.

Lillie was known for her intelligence, serenity, spunk, thoughtfulness, beauty, humor, and wit.  She was loved by everyone who knew her and especially beloved by her two daughters, Rosemary Lauria and Susan Tartaglia; her son-in-law Bob Tartaglia; her grandchildren Adam (Crystal)Tartaglia, Evan (Katrina) Tartaglia, Jillian Lauria (Jonathan) Duplissis, Joseph (Alison) Lauria, and Matthew (Olivia)Tartaglia.  She had nine great-grandchildren: Adriana Tartaglia, Catalina Tartaglia, Giada Tartaglia, Collin Duplissis, Zachary Duplissis, Samuel Lauria, Reese Lauria, Mila Tartaglia, and Jamison Tartaglia.  She was adored by her nieces Christine Pingaro Leiter, Anne Marie Albetin, Deborah Signer, Roseann Terrase-Bacorn, Josephine Terrase-Cohen, Barbara Salese, and Joann Cortina—as well as by her nephews Michael Pingaro and Bill Scorzari.

Sal predeceased her in October 2017, after they had been married for almost 71 years.  She was  predeceased by her siblings Esther Signer, Rachel Sarti, Rose Wright, Daniel Pingaro, and Dorothy Scorzari—as well as their spouses.  She was also predeceased by her brothers-in-law Ralph Terrase, Joseph Terrase, Lou Sarti Sr., Herb Signer, John Wright, and Bill Scorzari; her sisters-in-law Dora Pingaro, Anna Terrase, and Fay Terrase; her son-in-law, Pat Lauria; as well as her nephews Louis Sarti, Joseph Sarti, and Robert Signer.

Throughout her lifetime Lillian was a creative and gourmet cook, active hostess, trend-setting fashionista, avid reader, and a self-taught interior decorator.  In her younger years she enjoyed golf and swimming, both of which she did well; and in her retirement years she and Sal traveled to many places in this country as well as Aruba, Bermuda, and Italy.  She took pride in selecting individualized presents for people as the occasions arose, always accompanied by a warm and well-expressed note cherished by many.  She was the unparalleled epitome of a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, godmother, and aunt.  She had an abundance of close friends during her lifetime and readily made new ones wherever she went.

Lillian's family wishes to thank the staff at Vi at Lakeside's Care Center for their excellent attention and care, as well as the Trustbridge staff who provided a watchful and loving presence in her last years.  They also would like to recognize Jennifer Copeland as being an outstanding aide and devoted companion for over six years.
