Louis Joseph Monturo, 100, of Boynton Beach, FL. passed away peacefully Dec. 12, 2015.
Mr. Monturo has been a resident of Boynton Beach since 1972, moving from New York. Born in New York City October 26, 1915 to Benjamin and Celeste Monturo, he was the youngest of 9 children who all predeceased him including Sr. Muriel Monturo, RSM of Good Shepherd Parish, Inwood NY. Mr. Monturo was a veteran of World War II serving as a sergeant in the US Army Air Corps in Italy. Upon his return to the United States he owned an Esso Station and Monturo Liquors in Manhattan before relocating to Florida.
He was a founding member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Boynton Beach where he served over the past 43 years in almost every aspect of parish life. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Loyola Council, for the past 30 years. He worked for many years at several banks in Boynton Beach. He also was an active member of the VFW Post in Boynton Beach.
He was known to many including his family as "Uncle Louie" and he was loved and admired by everyone who ever met him.
Survivors include many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews including Reverend Christopher Monturo, Pastor of Saint Anthony of Padua Church, West Harrison NY and his longtime friend Mary Whalen.
Visitation will be held from 3-6 pm Friday, Dec. 18th at Boynton Memorial Chapel, Boynton Beach, Florida. Mass of Christian Burial 10am Saturday, Dec. 19th, St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Boynton Beach. Interment will take place Monday at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.
