Mims, Margie H.

Ninety-eight year old South Florida native, Margie H. Mims, passed peacefully away on October 24 at the Boynton Beach Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Her husband, Kenneth C. 'Buck' Mims and a grandson, Garrett, preceded her in death.

She was born in 1916 in Delray Beach, FL to Anna and Wilson Harvel. She lived in Coral Gables and Clewiston before returning to Delray Beach and graduating from Boynton Beach High School in 1932. She continued her education in Charlotte, NC and returned to Florida to work for the company that became the FEC Railway. She was active in the business management of the Welbrock and Mims Farms. For many years, she was the administrative assistant to the Principal of the Delray Beach Junior High. After retirement she continued to use her organizational skills assisting groups including the Unity Church and School in Delray Beach, FL.

Margie was devoted to her Christian beliefs and was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church; a member of the Order of the Eastern Star; the National Secretaries Association; Delray Beach Garden Club and several other organizations. Friends were most important to Margie, as she enjoyed socializing, playing bridge and traveling with them. She particularly enjoyed her travels to France, Germany, and Japan. For some years she summered in Blowing Rock, NC.

Margie is survived by her three sons: Kenneth L. (Dr. Nancy) of Villa Rica, GA, Richard L. (Dorothea) of Austin, TX and R. Colby of Boynton Beach, FL and former daughter-in-law Sherilyn Barton of Boynton Beach, FL, and four grand children; Erron Mims, Shelby Mims-Lefkowitz, Erik Mims, Karen Hansen. Two great grand children: Kaitlin Mims and Hunter Hansen and her kitty cat, Lovie, also survive her.

Friends may visit from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Boynton Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Delray Beach, FL. Interment in the Delray Beach Cemetery will follow.

In lieu of flowers, Margie would ask that you consider a donation to a full life animal rescue organization, but to make any donation to the charity of your choice.
