Mrs. Maria A. de la Rocha (née Zuniga), of Boynton Beach, FL, passed away early Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the age of 70, with family by her bedside.
Born in San Jose, Costa Rica to parents Eduardo and Luz Zuniga, Maria was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She grew up as the eldest of five. In 1964, she married her high school sweetheart, Byron J. de la Rocha and moved to California where the couple had four children. Maria worked for Universal Studios in the Accounting department in the 1970's and 1980's until Byron took an overseas job assignment. Over the course of the next 50+ years, they lived and raised their children and grandson Devin, in Panama, Colombia, Florida, Argentina, Brazil, California, Mexico, and Guatemala.
Her friendships are far reaching and all that have met and knew her will acknowledge her zest for life, her unconditional friendship, her championing for the underdog and her unwavering devotion to her family.
Maria is survived by her husband Byron J. de la Rocha; daughters, Cynthia Zamberlan, Patricia Wasserman and Dianne de la Rocha; son, Byron E. de la Rocha; sister, Hilda Zuniga; brothers Carlos Zuniga and Mario Zuniga; four grandchildren, Devin, Amanda, Selena, and Gabriela.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10am Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church, 10935 South Military Trail, Boynton Beach, FL 33436 (http://www.stmbb.org). She will be interred at a later date in Costa Rica with her parents. A Celebration of Maria's Life will be held from 11am to 2pm at the Courtyard Marriott, 1601 N. Congress Avenue, Boynton Beach, FL 33426 following the Mass at church.
