Marian C. Ortiz, age 89, of Boynton Beach, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Born on April 9, 1936, in New Brunswick, Marian was the beloved daughter of Angelo and Rose Caruso.
Marian grew up in Jamesburg, New Jersey, and graduated from Jamesburg High School in 1954. During her school years, she was active in choir and enjoyed playing softball, bowling, and speedball—early signs of the energy and enthusiasm that would define her life.
She was married to Donald Ortiz, for 44 years until his passing in 2012.
Marian built a dedicated career as an administrator, beginning at Creative Playthings and later retiring from Philips Lighting at the age of 60. Beyond her professional life, Marian was deeply committed to her community. She was a proud and longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jamesburg Elks BPOE #2180 and the American Legion Auxiliary Star Unit 127, where she formed lasting friendships and gave generously of her time.
Marian was known for her endless energy, quick wit, infectious laughter, relentless optimism, and fierce spirit. Above all, she was defined by her boundless love for her family and friends. Her front door was always open, and her kitchen was often filled with the aroma of her legendary Sunday sauce with meatballs and her famous chocolate chip cookies. She loved being on the go, cherished laughter, and was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees. Those who knew her will forever remember her favorite sayings: "God draws straight with crooked lines," "You don't get if you don't ask," and "Getting old ain't for sissies."
Marian is survived by her sister, Carmella Osborne; her children, Edward Horne (wife Donna), Michael Horne (wife Laura), and Karen Hart; her stepdaughter Wendy Ortiz; and her "bonus" daughter, Becky Mikula, whom she loved as one of her own. She was a proud grandmother to James Hart, Christopher Hart, Nicholas Horne, Holly Horne, Allison Mack, Kyle Horne, Melanie Lee, and step-grandson Wesley Barton. She was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Chad Horne. Marian also leaves behind four cherished great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.
A private celebration of life will be held in Boynton Beach, Florida, on April 9, 2026—what would have been Marian's 90th birthday.
Marian's legacy of love, strength, laughter, and faith will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marian's memory to the Jamesburg Elks BPOE #2180, the American Legion Auxiliary Star Unit 127, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
