Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness that family and friends come to reflect on the passing of our dear Marie - wife of 57 years to Ernie (rip 2006)  She was a loving and wonderful mother to Danny, Diane and Debbie - a lively and high spirited grandma to Krissy, Tonito, Tara and Kristy (also beloved by all the respective spouses). She was Great Grandma Cheeseballs to Lio, Max and Cruz; and just in recent months, she was overjoyed to meet her newest (first) great grand daughter Veda Blue. Marie brought a fullness of life to her extended family and leaves behind one sibling, her sister Angie. Many family members mourn her loss. Marie - as the first born of 7 - made the journey with her Immigrant parents from the tiny island of Panarea off Sicily to Ellis Island. From an early age, Marie had an extraordinary zest for life and was high spirited and happy. She won awards for writing in school - a hobby she enjoyed the whole of her life; and she'd spend hours drawing pictures to go with romantic scripts she created. She enjoyed homemaking and raising her three children. She was called upon, in later years, to also look after the grandkids; and they'll all say they had a blast spending time with Grandma. She will be remembered by them for teaching artwork, listening to how one can win a video game, for having to eat endless hot bowls of oatmeal (or apple turnovers made on a gadget she'd purchased from Home Shopping (a hobby she continued to enjoy). But mostly Marie taught the grandkids to enjoy life by scooting around town with her: from Sheepshead Bay, to Kings Highway, to Nostrand - until later on when she took over the Boynton Beach FL bus system. Marie was a world traveler with her husband - later had an apt on the beach in San Juan. She was vivacious and enjoyed being a Glamour Girl of that era. In later years, after relocating to Florida - she made many trips back to Brooklyn to see her Mom and re-connect with her kids, siblings and extended family. Marie was a wonderful hostess - and enjoyed everyone who came to her place. All felt welcome in her presence. She will be remembered for her kindness and cheerful disposition - and mostly for her Zest for Life, High Spirits and her Lifelong Love of San Antonio. God Bless Marie.
