IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marilyn
Tuppen
August 28, 1936 – February 27, 2023
On Monday, February 27, 2023, Marilyn (Reichheld) Tuppen of Lantana, Florida peacefully passed away at age 86. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Sherman "Buddy" Tuppen and only and cherished son Scott Tuppen. Bringing a smile to the faces of everyone she knew, Marilyn was intelligent, warm, funny, and generous as well as a wonderful family member, friend and dog lover who will be greatly missed.
A native of Ontario, Canada, Marilyn moved to Lake Worth, Florida in 1957. Her father's company helped pave roads for the development that would become the Village of Atlantis. In 1958 Marilyn met Buddy on a blind date. After dating for a few months they were engaged, and on December 19, 1959, they were married in a Christmas wedding celebration.
Marilyn worked as a legal secretary and later became a licensed real estate broker in Atlantis, Florida, where she and Buddy settled in 1973.
Bud and Marilyn, along with Bud's brother, Ron, owned and operated Tuppen's Marine and Tackle, a boat and supply dealership serving the greater Palm Beach County boating community. Marilyn helped with accounting and technology for their business. After 47 years, they sold it and under the new ownership the business remains a living legacy in the area.
As their business grew Bud and Marilyn were offered wonderful trips on both land and sea ,which resulted in their love of travel. Some of the places they visited were Tahiti, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Australia, New Zealand, Italy and most of Europe by cruise ship. Their favorite places were Africa and the Canadian Rockies. They also shared lots of happy memories in the Keys during Florida lobster season. Later in life they bought an RV and toured the United States and Canada.
Marilyn was involved in numerous civic and philanthropic organizations. She was a member of P.E.O. International Chapter DW in Lake Worth, an organization which advances women through scholarships, grants, awards and loans. She served on many committees and was the chapter's president in 1991. She was also an officer for the JFK Medical Center Foundation and the Ocean Ridge Garden Club. She was a volunteer fundraiser for The American Red Cross.
Marilyn and Buddy were lifetime members of the West Palm Beach Fishing Club. Together for 25 years they served this charitable organization in many capacities including helping facilitate fishing trips for area underprivileged children.
Besides excelling at organizing trips for both her and Buddy and their friends, Marilyn had many interests, hobbies and skills. She was proficient at using computer programs before it was common. She cherished time with her friends and often planned social and charitable outings with a group they named "The Ladies Who Lunch". An avid reader, she was a member of the "Page Turners", a local book club that frequently met in members' homes. She was a gifted entertainer and enjoyed hosting house parties, small and large, especially on New Year's Eve. She loved and cared for her dogs Sashi and Duchess.
A private celebration of life will be held in April.
