Marjorie Watts Voss Shepherd Nelson passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, in Longwood, Florida, at the age of 98.

Born on September 14, 1927, in Baltimore, Maryland, Marjorie spent her childhood in a Philadelphia suburb. Marjorie's life was marked by unwavering faith, strong convictions, perseverance, sharp mind, humor and devotion to family. She leaves behind a legacy of service, strength, and love that will continue to inspire those who knew her.

A lifelong learner, Marjorie earned her bachelor's degree while in her forties, an accomplishment of which she was justifiably proud. She worked briefly in bookkeeping at the corporate offices for then-retailer, The Cricket Shop. 

Marjorie maintained a lifelong interest in current events. She read the daily newspaper and enjoyed the comics, often clipping them and mailing them to friends and family. 

Marjorie was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter R. Voss; her second husband, George Shepherd; her son, Walter R. Voss Jr.; infant daughter Lily C. Voss, who died in 1956; step-daughter and son-in-law, Virginia (Voss) and Ron Pohls; step-son Henry Shepherd; and four siblings, Leslie Nowak, Thomas Watts, Howard Watts and George Watts.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia R. Voss (Clinton Terry) and M. Susan Cook (Mac); her sister, Jean Sherwood; Shepherd step-children Helena, Bill, Gail & Neil; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Bradford (Scott), Amy Ansbaugh (Dani Rohr), Chad Ansbaugh (Steffanie). Dana 'Kitty' Robinson (Casey), Vanessa Row and James Walter Boyd Cook; Voss-Pohls step-grandchildren Debbie, Rob & Chris; Shepherd step-grandchildren, Janet, Evelyn, Mervyn, Martina, Kristian, Michelle, Ryan and Erika. Others; thirteen great-grandchildren - Kelsi, Gunner, Libby, Annie, Josie, Westin, Emmie, Isaiah, Bailey, Braxton, Brody, Audree and Ryder; and two great-great-grandchildren; Isaac and Theo. In addition, there are numerous extended family members and friends whose lives she touched over nearly a century.

Her true passion was genealogy to which she devoted countless hours researching family history, preserving records, and helping others discover their roots. As a founder and board member of the Genealogical Society of Palm Beach, Marjorie volunteered for years in their library; contributed to and edited their 'Ancestry' publication. She wrote genealogy books Robert Palmatary of Duck Creek Delaware, Pioneer Days on the Shores of Lake Worth (with Mary Linehan), and catalogued all the graves in Palm Beach County, Florida’s 5 public cemeteries between her 70th and 80th birthdays. She was also one of the first members of the Lake Worth Pioneers Association and faithfully attended their annual 'Pioneer Picnic'.

 As a young mother, Marjorie became a member of Southside Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she served as their choir director, organist and Sunday School teacher. At the same time, she was also active in the Girl Scouts, serving as a troop leader for many years. Years later, she moved to Boynton Beach and became an active member of First Baptist Church of Hypoluxo in Lantana, Florida. She sang in the choir, kept the church journal, served as treasurer, welcomed new members, taught Sunday School and continued to share her faith and friendship with others.

2018 brought a move to long-term care at Boulevard Manor in Boynton Beach, Florida; and in 2020, another move, to Longwood Health and Rehabilitation Center (LHRC) in Longwood, Florida. The affection and respect she inspired in those who cared for her at LHRC was evident in their open grieving upon learning of her passing.

Visitation and viewing will be at First Baptist Church of Hypoluxo in Lantana, Florida, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m., with interment immediately afterward at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at 1:30PM.
