Obituary

Mark Reilly Francis Rentschler, age 70, a much beloved husband, father, grandpa,
uncle, brother (in-law), friend and neighbor died peacefully, surrounded by his
family, on Monday, June 26, 2023. Mark was the cherished son of Mary Elizabeth
Malone (Rentschler) Bishop and Carl Stuart Rentschler. Mark was born on
December 7, 1952 in Long Branch, New Jersey. Mark and his family moved to
southern California when he was a young child and he grew up in beautiful La
Canada, a city in the foothills of the Verdugo Mountains.
As a youngster, Mark delighted in sports and played baseball and football through
high school. He loved the outdoors and could be found surfing and swimming as
well as pole vaulting, track and any other sport he could fit into his schedule.
Mark's family loved vacationing in the southern California high desert region;
fishing, boating and riding dirt bikes. Mark attended the University of California at
Los Angeles but eventually found his way to the University of Colorado at Boulder.
In addition to attending classes, he spent much time rock climbing and hiking.
Mark also worked to support his hobbies of attending concerts and tinkering with
his motorcycle. He joined the fledgling company that later became Domino's Pizza
and left college to pursue a career with Corporate - locating sites, building them
out and operating them for the company. Several years later, he settled in
Flagstaff, Arizona as a Domino's franchisee.
When Mark left Domino's, he traveled east to visit his Mom and (step) Dad, Paul,
on Terra Mar Island, Pompano Beach, Florida. He and Paul forged a strong
relationship and enjoyed scuba diving, fishing and boating every opportunity they
had. Mark would tell you he never liked flat, humid Florida but something made
him stay. He entered stock brokerage as a retail broker for a regional firm,
specializing in over-the-counter stocks. Within months, he moved from the retail
side of the business to wholesale stock trading. He loved the pace, the calculated
risks, and the people. It fit his adventurous personality perfectly. He worked as a
trader for many years and was active in the Florida Security Traders Association,
serving as president for some time. After his son, David, graduated college, Mark
hired him as an assistant trader. They worked well together and eventually
became partners.
In the early stages of his trading career, he met the love of his life, Gerri, and her
two children, David and Marissa McGuire. He fell in love with all three of them

and Gerri and Mark married in 1988. Mark was a devoted husband and father,
teaching the children everything from how to ride a bike, to driving and decision
making. He brought his zest for life and generosity of spirit to every situation. He
taught them to think for themselves and to love themselves enough to be able to
love others. The foursome took many vacations together, and had as much fun as
possible before the kids married the love of their lives and started their own
families.
In 1986 Mark was hospitalized and diagnosed with asthma. That's when Dr. Mark
Adelman, his dedicated and supremely professional pulmonary specialist, started
treating him. They formed a strong bond and Dr. A was Mark's doctor and friend
for the rest of his life. They worked together to manage Mark's pulmonary health
issues and there were several miracles accomplished over the decades.
In 1995, Mark and Gerri adopted their first dog together, a retired racing
greyhound, Dox Slick. Slick's winning personality led them to become active in
Greyhound Pets of America of Southeast Florida. Mark, Gerri and Slick found
lasting friendships through GPA. Mark served on the Board of Directors working
closely with the racetrack, dog owners and the community. Both Mark and Gerri
were active volunteers as well. They also adopted Jewel and Cade. Their love of
the breed was so great it even influenced their daughter and son-in-law to adopt
Bradley, another retired racing greyhound.
In 2005, Mark joined the Florida Highway Patrol as a 911 dispatcher in the Lake
Worth Communications Center. He found the hectic pace similar to his stock
trading years and was a dedicated professional to public safety and the training of
newer colleagues. He worked there until 2014 when health issues forced Mark
to take early retirement.
Mark was instrumental in teaching his children many valuable life lessons. He was
always able to laugh at himself and showed the strength of not taking oneself too
seriously. As the six grandchildren came along; Jonathan McGuire, Faith McGuire,
Isabella Detrick, Christian McGuire, Reilly Detrick and Jacob Detrick, each of them
benefitted by his delight in being silly and funny and seeing the lighter side of life.
They and their parents were truly the brightest lights in Mark's life. He cherished
each grandchild for the unique individuals they are.

Mark was devastated by the unexpected death of his son-in-law, Todd Detrick,
just a few short months ago. He was with Marissa during the final minutes and
held her tight. Watching his son, David, supporting his sister since that tragic
night has been a big comfort to Mark.
Mark was saddened by the recent loss of his mother-in-law, Theresa Milio, who
passed away shortly after Todd. Theresa and Mark developed a close relationship
over the years, sharing hundreds of joyful times together.
Mark is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Geraldine Milio; their children
David and Charis McGuire, and Marissa Detrick; their truly amazing grandchildren,
Johnny, Faith and Christian McGuire, Isabella, Reilly and Jacob Detrick; his (step)
dad, Paul Bishop and the Bishop family; as well as the large loving family he
married into: Ray and Mel Milio, Phil and Julie Milio, Marie and Ron Santo and
each of their children and each of their children's children, and a loving
assortment of cousins. This large group of people will forever miss the man they
respected, loved and enjoyed.
