Obituary

Mary Ann McCarty (née DeFeo) passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, in Boynton Beach, Florida, at the age of 78.

She was born on October 9, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, to Anello (Louis) Luigi DeFeo and Caterina (Kay) DeFina. She was the beloved sister of Joseph and Neil DeFeo. MaryAnn worked as a medical transcriptionist and secretary for several organizations, including the VA Medical Center in the Bronx, Albert Einstein Hospital in the Bronx, and various healthcare facilities in South Florida.

She moved from Brooklyn to the Bronx, where she raised her two children. Later, she relocated to Boca Raton, Florida, with her lifelong partner, Giacinto "Jack" Schwall. She eventually retired and made her home at Colonial Estates in Boynton Beach, Florida.

If you ever met MaryAnn, you knew she was an avid Trump supporter. She lived a simple life filled with passion and took great joy in hosting large house parties where family and friends gathered to celebrate. She loved cooking many of her favorite Italian dishes, including macaroni and meatballs, rice balls, and sausage and peppers. She especially enjoyed telling everyone that her granddaughter made the best sausage and peppers. MaryAnn truly lived life her own way.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Gina Marie Cantarella (née McCarty); her son-in- law, Joseph A. Cantarella; her cherished grandchildren, Alexander ("Al") Cantarella and Catrina ("Cat") Cantarella; and her beloved Chihuahua, Luigi, who was a constant companion and brought her great joy.

MaryAnn was predeceased by her beloved son, Mark J. McCarty, in 1994; her brother, Joseph "Joe" DeFeo, in 1998; her mother, Caterina (Kay) DeFina, in 2001; and her lifelong partner, Giacinto "Jack" Schwall, in 2010.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service in New York will be announced at a later date. A Celebration of Life for MaryAnn's many friends in South Florida will be held during the season in January 2027. Additional details will be shared once arrangements have been finalized.
