Obituary

Mary Smolley Scott, formerly from Boynton Beach, FL was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 3, 1924.  She was the daughter of Michael and Rosalia Smolley, Ukrainian immigrants from Western Ukraine.

She grew up in Spring Valley, NY and joined the Navy on her 20th birthday during WWII.  She received an honorable discharge as a Petty Officer Naval Medical Corpsman.  Later in life, she earned a college degree in Nursing and worked at Nyack Hospital Medical Lab and Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY.  In 1967 she moved to Boca Raton, FL where she worked at the Boca Raton Community Hospital for 10 years, retiring as a Nursing Supervisor. Her greatest passions were family, friends, knitting, and celebrating holidays.  She was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage and enjoyed preparing traditional Ukrainian meals.

Mary was preceded in death by her brother, John Smolley, two sisters, Jenny Sywenki and Anna Bandura, and her husband, Arnold Fred Scott, who was her childhood sweetheart.  They married in May 1948 and had four children: Arnold J. Scott (Maxine), Gail T. Brown (Scott), Susan M. Badar (John), Donna E. Fernandez (Tony).  She leaves behind six grandchildren: Jennifer Baker/Brown (Jeffrey), Scott Brown, Meagan Condon (Kevin), Molly Barndt (Jason), Alex Scott, Travis Scott. Mary's ten great grandchildren will miss her dearly: Zoe, Nia, Levi, Ava, Caleb, Benjamin, Evelyn, Lily, Owen, and Charlotte. Mary also leaves behind many wonderful memories for her brother, Steve Smolley (Lillian) and 16 nieces and nephews, who will always remember "Aunt Mimi" as a spitfire in life who always enjoyed having fun. She will also be sorely missed by her remaining friends.
