IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael R.
Caporale Jr.
January 3, 1924 – October 5, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Michael Ralph Caporale, Jr., who departed this life on October 5, 2024 at the age of 100. His preferred name, Mickey, was used by his family and close friends. Born on January 3, 1924 in New Haven, Connecticut, to his parents Michael and Rose Caporale,
Michael Ralph Caporale is a WWII Veteran joining the 8th U.S. Army Air Corp as a B17 navigator, flying over 20 successful missions into Germany. After the war and a Journalism degree from Boston University, he joined the newly formed Air Force. He later attended Georgetown University and graduated with a law degree in 1958. He dedicated 30 years of distinguished service and retired in 1976 and returned to his hometown of New Haven, Connecticut.
Mickey was a devoted husband to his late wife, Nancy Lyons Caporale, who he lovingly cared for until her passing in April 2009. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love, built over 63 years of marriage.
As a father, he was our guiding light. He is survived by his three children, Michael Caporale, III, Robert Caporale, and Carolyn Caporale Arias. He leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, who will forever treasure the lessons he imparted and the love he gave so freely. Mickey was one of four children, survived by his sister Marie Caporale Oddi and his brother Edward Caporale. He is predeceased by his parents Michael and Rose Caporale and his sister Anne Caporale DeFillipo.
He cherished time spent with family, whether it was traveling from one duty station to the next, big family gatherings, or simply sharing stories of his life. His wisdom, kindness, and selflessness shaped our lives, and his legacy will live on through us.
In his later years, Mickey found joy in serving his community and always finding ways to stay engaged and connected to his family and friends. He faced life's challenges with grace and a smile, showing us the importance of resilience and gratitude.
