Obituary

Patricia Jane Maher, of Delray Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2023 in her apartment with her daughters by her side.  She recently celebrated her 100th birthday.  Pat was born May 16, 1923, in St Louis, MO, to Arthur and Josephine Goette.  Pat's father died when she was just 13 months old, and her mother soon remarried.  Thomas Sweeney, whom Pat came to call "Daddy Tom," became Pat's new loving father, adopting "Patsy."

Pat attended Fontbonne College for two years, majoring in business, but her heart was in music.  She left college and worked for the U.S. government, contributing to the war effort.  Pat met her future husband, Clement L Maher, on a blind date shortly before Clem departed to serve as a pilot in WWII.  Pat and Clem were married on December 28, 1946.  They were the loving parents of four daughters, raising their family in St Louis, MO.

Pat became a proud homemaker.  She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. She was an expert clothing seamstress making many items for herself and her children.  Her prized work was a large quilt.  For fun, Pat took up golf and enjoyed joining Clem on the golf course.  She loved to entertain in her home including playing pinochle and bridge with her friends.  Pat played the piano, sang, danced with Clem, and delighted in attending musicals at the "Muny" in St Louis.  She loved to read and keep up with current events.  She was a deeply religious woman and faithfully attended weekly rosary in her senior community.  She was treasured by her many friends.  Pat was a devoted mother, and her greatest pride was hearing about the adventures and accomplishments of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Pat is survived by her 4 daughters, Kathleen Maher Passe (Marty Passe), Sharon Maher (Ben Parsons), Dr Jacquelyn Maher (Dr Robert Edelman) and Peggy Maher Doherty; her special daughters, Gayle Black and Claudette Fraser; her grandchildren, Sarah, Daniel, Kristin, Ben, Paul, Lauren, Bridget, Connor and Brendan; and great-grandchildren, Vale, Alexa, Kelsey, Camron, Zoe and Escher.  She is also survived by a niece, several nephews, and their families.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Clem, and her son-in-law, Kevin Doherty.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 11:00 am at Emmanuel Catholic Church, 15700 S Military Trail, Delray Beach, FL.
