Obituary

Robert (Bob) W. Gilbert of Gilford, New Hampshire passed peacefully on December 3, 2023, with his family by his side in Boynton Beach, Florida. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy (Ozella) Gilbert, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His parents Florence and Alfred Gilbert predeceased him along with his sister, Mildred.

Bob was raised in Methuen, Massachusetts where he attended Methuen schools and was a member of the first graduating class of Methuen High School in 1954. He played football and ran track. Although he raised his family in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, he remained a lifelong member of the Methuen community. He could be seen on a regular basis at Methuen High football games well into his 80's. Bob was proud of service to his country in the United States Army.

He was considered by many to be a pioneer in the marketing world as it came into the computer age in the late 1960's and early 1970's.  He was the founding member of Inquiry Systems and Analysis (ISA) and served as Executive Vice President until it was acquired by CMGI. He served on countless boards and was guest speaker at numerous conferences and trade shows across the country. He worked with such companies as Hewlett Packard, Caterpillar, Harris Semi-Conductor, AT&T, Bank of America to name a few. After his retirement, he continued to be a sought-after consultant to help advise the next generation of marketing leaders.

His commitments and passion reached far beyond his professional pursuits. Bob worked closely with Ted Williams and the Jimmy fund. He was a founding member of the Methuen High School Hall of Fame which he was inducted into in 2015. His unyielding devotion to Methuen was recognized when a scholarship was named after him for the most outstanding athlete scholar in the football program, which is awarded on an annual basis. His countless hours of effort and hard work to All Saints Church in Chelmsford, Massachusetts continued until his passing.

Perhaps one of greatest legacies is his guidance and tireless support in forming the Lake Shore Park Association in Gilford, New Hampshire in 1975. He was one of thirteen individuals who represented over 350 families to establish the association and community, which is the largest piece of privately owned property on Lake Winnipesaukee. He was an avid boater and enjoyed his time with his family and dear friends. To this day, thousands of people have enjoyed many summers at Lake Shore Park due to Bob's hard work to preserve a tradition that was created many decades ago.

Bob will be missed by the many people who he helped directly and indirectly throughout his life. His impact will continue to have a lasting affect through his family and the lives he touched. He always expected the best from those who he loved and cared for. He will be eternally missed.

A celebration of Bob's life will take place later this year. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made on Bob's behalf to the ASPCA and St. Jude's Children Research hospital.
