Obituary

Affectionately known as Bo, passed unexpectedly on November 21, 2020.  Preceded in death by his parents Neal and Aileen Roche as well as his brother, Neal Roche.  Born October 13, 1946 in Jersey City, NJ. Graduated from Columbia High School, South Orange, NJ; Montclair State College,NJ; and achieved a Master's degree from Kean College, NJ.  He served in the US Army Reserve from March 1967 to March 1973 as a medical corpsman and qualified as a rifle sharpshooter.

He leaves behind his best friend and wife of 51 years, Rose Ann. Also, his three cherished daughters and their families who filled his life with an abundance of pride, love and happy times: Lauren (Roche) and Sergio Matos, Colleen and Bijou Roche-Hopwood, Michelle (Roche) and Nick and Landon Jordan as well as his devoted canine companion, Sadie. Additionally, his siblings and their spouses: Mary Aileen Starkey (Charles), Patrick Roche (Suzanne), Marguerite Pizzi (Peter) and Kathy Ann Held (Alan) and in-laws Alice Roche, and John, Kathleen and Robert Boyle as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Robert had countless numbers of friends. He was loyal and reliable, his friends were "friends for life"

He worked as a police officer for several years in South Orange, NJ while attending college. He started his teaching career at Central School, Stirling, NJ and continued there for 10 years.

Having spent many years enjoying the summers at the Jersey shore in Metedeconk, NJ, Robert and Rose Ann decided to move to Florida so their family could enjoy the ocean and warm climate all year round.

Once in Florida, he continued his career in education and taught for 27 years in the Palm Beach County School system serving in Spanish River HS, Carver Middle School, Santaluces HS,  Glades Central HS, and Boynton Beach HS. He retired in 2010.

He shared his expertise and love of law enforcement by becoming a fully certified police officer working with the Florida Fish and Wildlife as a Reserve officer for over 20 years. He recently retired as a Lieutenant.

Robert was truly a "Super-Man". He was blessed with many talents: among them construction, which included building homes for both his parents and his sister in NJ.  He could take just about anything apart..cars (especially Corvettes), motorcycles (Harleys), computers etc...and put it back together....of course, without directions! He put these talents to good use by helping family, neighbors and friends whenever needed.  He also became a licensed building contractor in Florida.

When you think of Robert, you just have to smile.  He possessed a fantastic sense of humor... there wasn't a word you could speak that didn't evoke a joke or funny story.  He enjoyed making people laugh as well as laughing along with them.  He treasured his time with his family, cooking delicious dinners and sharing them with family and friends, or just being with Rose Ann in the comfort of his home, reading with Sadie at his side.

A memorial will be held for family and friends with a celebration of Robert's life planned for a future date.
