Born June 29, 1950 in Butler, PA, Ronald Edward Norman (58) grew up in Evans City, PA. He died at his Boynton Beach, FL, home on April 1 at 3:33pm. He finally lost his 10-year battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
He graduated from Seneca Valley High School in 1968. He earned a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and Physics from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, PA, 1972. He also earned a Masters Degree in Mathematics from Clarion University, Clarion, PA.
Ron taught math and physics for 31 years at East Forest High School, Marienville, PA; Brockway Area High School, Brockway, PA; and congruently part-time at The Penn State DuBois Campus (9 years), DuBois, PA. He coached varsity basketball in Marienville, later officiated at basketball games (10 years) and advised Student Council at Brockway where he originated the workathon to benefit Pittsburgh's Children's Hospital.
He married Geneva alumna Vesta Lucinda (Cindy) Chamberlin October 20, 1972. Their son Richard Ronald Norman (32) was born May 8, 1976. Rich is now a firefighter medic at Margate, FL. Amid tornado warnings on May 24, 2008, Amanda L. Abell joined the Norman family when she married Rich. Ron had been looking forward to the birth of his first grandchild, Payton Richard, due April 29th.
Ron and Cindy moved from Hazen, PA to Boynton Beach, FL two years ago to be near Rich.
Ron was an avid Steeler fan, collecting Steeler paraphernalia. If a Steeler ball is inches from the goal and it topples over it on its own, now you can be sure that's Ron's doing. For Ron's ashes, Rich is making a box with an official Steeler medallion from PA oak from Fremer Lumber, Brockway, PA. Ron enjoyed woodworking and helping our son with construction projects. .
Before illness prevented him, Ron had been an active member of Brookville's First United Methodist Church, Brookville, PA. Ron had been a community volunteer for the Warsaw Volunteer Fire Dept and an auditor for Warsaw Township at Hazen, PA.
Ron was preceded in death by his father E. Merle Norman and his mother Velma Elizabeth (Bly) and brother Gary William. Ron is survived by his wife Cindy, son Rich, brother Dennis Norman of Ellwood City, PA, niece Marlea Norman Zubik and great niece Ava of Boca Raton, FL, and nephews Kevin Norman of Pittsburgh, PA, and Daniel Norman of NYC, NY.
A memorial service will be held 10am, April 6 at Boynton Memorial Chapel, Boynton Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hahne Cancer Center, 100 Hospital Ave., DuBois, PA 15801.
